Note from AFA President -- Books

Saturday, September 3, 2011

AFA members, I know most of you won’t be able to attend our upcoming Air & Space Conference. However, you should be aware that we have 9 authors who will make presentations and then sign their books. The books cover a variety of Airpower and national security subjects. I’ve used these notes to urge all of you to create a personal reading program. This is especially important for our younger members … as you are building a base of knowledge that will help you in positions of responsibility in the future. You can’t wait until you are a Chief Master Sergeant or General officer to build the knowledge base you will need.

These books are a foundation for you … and if you could only read a book each month, this list is a good one. You can find the list at: http://www.afa.org/events/Conference/2011/Conference2011_BookSignings.asp

If you are attending the conference, you can purchase the books in three ways:
  • If you would like to purchase your book now and you have already registered for the conference, log onto AFA’s registration system and choose the option to add any of the books available to your order.
  • If you have not registered yet, but would like to purchase your book prior to your arrival at the conference, register for the conference and choose the option to purchase any books you would like. You will be able to pick-up your pre-ordered books once you are on-site at the conference at AFA’s booth (Booth #935) on our technology exhibit floor.
  • If you choose to purchase your books on-site, you can do so at AFA’s booth.
Additionally, each Air Force professional should be aware of and be working on reading books from the Chief of Staff of the Air Force’s Reading List. I have read over half of them and am working on the rest. You can find the list at: http://www.af.mil/information/csafreading/index.asp

Finally, my reading list is in the process of being updated. You can find my last one at: http://www.afa.org/edop/2009/readinglist_1209.asp

For your consideration.

Hopefully, "Recipients of the Air Force Medal of Honor and Air Force Cross, Second Edition" by Eric R. Caubarreaux will be included in your updated list. The book is available through Amazon.com.
